It’s Time To Let Go

We all know the infamous song…

“Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know!Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door!

I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!

It’s funny how some distance
Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all!

It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me I’m free!

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry!

Here I stand
And here I’ll stay
Let the storm rage on!

My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back,
The past is in the past!

Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone!

Here I stand
In the light of day
Let the storm rage on,
The cold never bothered me anyway!”

As I sat at a conference at church this weekend, this song really resonated within my in a new way.  (Disclaimer: nothing was ever said of this song all weekend long…I am the one who put the two together.)

So what am I saying it’s time to let go of?  I think it’s time to let go of shame!  It’s time to quit letting it define who we are as people and allowing it to affect our day to day lives.  In reality, we are all trying to be enough.  It’s important to remember that Simon Peter, Jesus’ disciple was considered to be the worst of people but yet was the best of people at the same time.  He was a really good example of the fact that every single person is hiding something in their lives.  Just imagine, for a moment, if we all became free.  Imagine if we all quit doing things FOR God instead of WITH God!  It’s also important to think about the following question:
Am I more in love with the idea of following Jesus than actually doing it?
To follow Jesus means to:
  • be a disciple
  • to know that Jesus loves you
  • to hear the voice of Jesus
  • love people
  • usher in the kingdom of God

It’s also time to stop thinking the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.  It’s time to remember that if we are feeling that way, maybe, just maybe, we need to water the grass on our side!  It’s time to stop living in our own pity party and freaking do something about it!
